On 1st April 1990, EKF Industrie-Elektronik GmbH was founded by a team of motivated and capable engineers in an office on the outskirts of Magdeburg. Over the following years, the start-up business in the former East German state would introduce a range of ground-breaking medical products aimed at international markets where the concept of point-of-care diagnostic testing was gaining momentum.
Over the years, the company expanded steadily, opening an office in Moscow and acquiring Senslab, manufacturers of Lactate Scout, in the 2000s. Then, in 2011, EKF-diagnostic GmbH was acquired by a British investment group and listed on the London Stock Exchange as part of EKF Diagnostics Holdings plc.
Today, EKF Diagnostics Holdings plc, headquartered in Cardiff, includes EKF-diagnostic GmbH and further subsidiaries in the USA, Russia, and China. The business now employs 300 staff members and supplies Point-of-Care, Central Laboratory, and Life Sciences products and services to over 200 customers worldwide.
General Manager of EKF-diagnostic GmbH Steffen Borlich, who was part of the small team that started the business in 1990, commented: “EKF is celebrating its 30th anniversary at a time when we are in our best years. We have many plans for the future with the development of new products and product extensions as we aim to keep pace with the demands of the fast-moving in-vitro diagnostic market.”
