AACC 2022

Join EKF Diagnostics at AACC where we will showcase Glycated Albumin, an intermediary biomarker for patients with diabetes.

Industry Workshop

Visit our Industry Workshop at Exhibit Hall Theater 1, 3:30pm Tuesday July 26 to learn about the attributes of GA, A1c and fructosamine.

Join us for a reception on our stand (#3637) afterwards. Everyone welcome!

Tests that measure glycated proteins, along with glucose, has been available for decades for the diagnosis and monitoring of diabetes mellitus (DM). Hemoglobin A1C is considered the ‘gold standard’ test and is used in the diagnosis, monitoring and the established risk predictor for complications of diabetes. However, there are inherent conditions and treatment regimens that may adversely affect HbA1c, resulting in inaccurate or misleading values. Therefore, use of alternative glycemic index tests may be appropriate in certain diabetic subpopulations. These clinical conditions will be reviewed with a discussion of an enzymatic methodology for specific measurement of glycated albumin.

Speaker: Shane O’Neill, Director of Scientific Affairs, EKF Diagnostics

Takuji Kohzuma Ph.D, Lead Expert (Diagnostics Clinical Development field), Asahi Kasei Pharma Corporation

Moderator: William Shorter, EKF Diagnostics

Learning Objectives

After attending this session, participants will be able to:

• Understand the need of alternate glycemic tests and the clinical indications or sub-populations when they might be ordered or appropriate.
• Recognize the differences and similarities of glycated albumin to other commonly used glycemic index tests used with diabetics
• Describe the evolution, architecture and technique of the glycated albumin (“GA”) test for use in glycemic monitoring of DM and its ability in predicting risk for diabetic complications.

Glycated Albumin

The Lucica® method for Glycated Albumin (GA), manufactured by Asahi Kasei Pharma Corporation, is a specific test for GA that is now FDA cleared for sale in the U.S. The Lucica® test is distributed exclusively by EKF USA (former Stanbio). The Lucica® test is one of the most widely used and published GA methods worldwide.

What is Glycated Albumin used for?

Lucica® is intended to be used for the quantitative measurement of glycated albumin in human serum on compatible clinical chemistry analyzers. The measurement of GA is useful for the intermediate term (preceding 2-3 weeks) monitoring of glycemic control in patients with diabetes. GA is for in vitro diagnostic use only.

Please note that Lucica® Glycated Albumin is only available from EKF Diagnostics in the USA.

Point of Care range

We will also be exhibiting our Point of Care range including Biosen, DiaSpect Tm and STAT-Site WB, a whole blood ketone meter.

Our point-of-care range includes  hemoglobin analyzers,  HbA1c analyzers and  glucose analyzers for use in the screening, monitoring and diagnosis of patients as well as rapid tests for  pregnancy and common infectious diseases.

EKF's point-of-care (PoC) analyzers are designed for use within doctors' surgeries, clinics, hospitals and laboratories to provide fast and accurate results at an affordable price.

By definition, PoC testing is carried out in the presence of the patient allowing open dialogue between them and the practitioner. In this way patients benefit from receiving medical advice during the course of a single visit.

All EKF point-of-care analyzers and consumables are CE marked; there are also CLIA waived products within the portfolio.
