EKF Diagnostics’ Hemo Control is a point-of-care hemoglobin analyzer designed to provide quantitative, lab quality results within 25 seconds.
Hemo Control uses the industry-standard photometric azide methemoglobin method to provide lab accurate results (CV <2%).
Hemo Control is used in blood banks, hospitals and doctors’ offices for routine screening for anaemia. And, due to its integrated rechargeable battery and robust design, it is the perfect analyzer for community programs in field settings.
In addition to providing hemoglobin measurement Hemo Control also calculates hematocrit.
Hemo Control analyzer can be upgraded to provide a complete data management solution. The Hemo Control ‘Add Pack’ is ideal for customers who require immediate implementation into a hospital or lab system or who are planning upgrading their POC devices to connect to LIS but are not yet in a position to do so for technological or budgetary reasons.
The analyzer’s bi-directional interface uses a public standard protocol that allows direct integration with third party software.
EKF's Hemo Control and Hemo Control Light software remain available for customers who wish to use data management and data export functions without LIS integration.
Data management functions preinstalled at delivery:
The EKF Hemo Control hemoglobin analyzer uses the innovative NXT microcuvettes. NXT microcuvettes have been designed with a large opening to collect the blood sample, meaning that users can hold the cuvette at almost any angle to gather the sample from the patient. The NXT microcuvette also features a slot at the rear of the sample chamber that allows trapped air to escape.
Trapped air in a blood sample will deliver inaccurate results, so by getting it right first time the Hemo Control NXT microcuvette keeps costs and patient discomfort to a minimum.
Once a sample has been taken the Hemo Control's built-in ‘soft-load’ microcuvette holder ensures that blood does not splash out when it is inserted into the analyser. This minimises the risk of contaminating the analyser for future use.
Anemia is a condition in which the number of red blood cells or their oxygen-carrying capacity (hemoglobin) is insufficient.
Iron deficiency is thought to be the most common cause of anaemia although other conditions such as folate, vitamin B12 and vitamin A deficiencies, chronic inflammation, parasitic infections and inherited disorders can all cause anaemia.
Anemia can cause symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, dizziness and shortness of breath. In its severe form it is associated with chest pain, angina, heart attack and fainting. Pregnant women and children are particularly vulnerable.
EKF is a leading point-of-care diagnostics and central laboratory assay manufacturer with an estimated 80,000 hemoglobin, hematocrit, HbA1c, glucose and lactate analyzers in regular use across more than 100 countries.
EKF specialises in developing tests for use in diabetes and anemia diagnosis and management, as well as providing a portfolio of reagents for use in clinical chemistry analyzers. “We distribute the Hemo Control product in Peru and we find it to be a very reliable, resistance and versatile product that works brilliantly for us. Peru is a country of difficult geography and our teams have had to endure extreme cold, unbearable heat and vast differences in altitude (from sea-level right up to 4,500 meters). The Hemo Control analyzers are installed in sea-level establishments operating in temperatures over 35°C and in the mountains, at more than 4,500 meters above sea level at far lower temperatures. We also have establishments in the jungle, with the Hemo Control operating in the hot and humid climate”
